How to Avoid VICP Scams
Scam artists sometimes exploit the VICP to steal money or personal information from unsuspecting victims. Recently, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims (Vaccine Court) issued a warning about fraudulent schemes pretending to be part of the VICP process.
At Pearsall Law Firm, P.C., we want you to understand how these scams work—and how to protect yourself from becoming a victim.
Common Types of VICP Scams
The Vaccine Court has identified three major types of fraud that claimants should watch for:
Identity Theft Scams: These scams try to trick people into giving up personal details like Social Security numbers, birth dates, or bank account information.
Advance Fee Scams: Scammers claim that a claimant must pay a “processing” or “release” fee before settlement funds can be sent.
Telemarketing or Email Scams: Fraudsters use high-pressure tactics, fake deadlines, or impersonate government officials to demand payment or personal details.
Important: The Vaccine Court and vaccine injury attorneys will never email or send letters asking for money, gift cards, or personal information.
4 Simple Tips to Protect Yourself
Never send money or share personal information if you receive an unexpected message about your claim. Official VICP communications only come through court filings and your attorney.
Do your research. If something sounds suspicious, search online for the scam description or call your attorney. Other victims may have already reported similar attempts.
Don’t pay anyone who promises faster results. Real VICP lawyers don’t cold call or ask for advance payments—the program pays your lawyer’s fees directly once your case is filed.
Talk to someone you trust. If you feel pressured or unsure, pause before taking action. Scammers rely on urgency and fear—two things real VICP officials will never use.
If you’ve filed a VICP claim or are considering one, always verify who you’re speaking with. The VICP process is legitimate—but scammers prey on confusion.
